THE GAME OF FANORONA

What is Fanorona?

Fanorona is a strategy board game for two players that originally comes from Madagascar where is also still very popular today.

The game is played on a board lined with rectangular grid and the most popular version (Fanoron-Tsivy) is played on a grid of size 9x5. Each player has 22 pieces of their color on the board when the game starts and pieces must be placed in a specific order (as shown in the picture below).

The first player has pieces of white color and the second player has pieces of black color. A player with white pieces always takes the first turn. The goal of the game is to take all of your opponent's pieces.
